WORKSHOPS

 

Trapese aims to build a participatory learning environment for all its workshops, we are committed to non-hierarchical organisation and our workshop sessions try to reflect this. We use video, handouts and games to keep the sessions diverse and fun. Materials to provide sessions for groups of all ages. The workshops also vary in length. All workshops have a 2 hour/ half a day or full day option.

The themes which we facilitate workshops on are: All our workshops are based on developing as much inclusivity as possible; to that end they all contain some of the following tools:

1. The Global Economy.

 
Looking through the key hole at major players in the global economy such as the G8, International Monetary Fund, World Bank etc. This workshop aims to give participants an inspiring and dynamic insight into the global economy and its functioning. Through a series of different games and activities we aim to encourage debate and discussion along a wide range of topics.

 

·         See the timeline of the rise of global capitalism and the resistance to it.

2. Climate Change and Sustainability

 

We hear a great deal about climate change and global warming. Workshops on climate change can be tailored to a number of different levels from the basic science to an over view on climate international processes. The aim of this workshop is to analyse and give   participants tools with which they begin to make the much needed changes in their lives.

 

3. The Oil Industry

 
Along the climate change theme this 2 hour workshop explores the peak oil theory and looks at the role that large oil companies play in the world.

 

4. Workable Alternatives and Environmental Sustainability

This workshop identifies the participants climate ’foot print’ and through a series of exercises discusses what they would and wouldn’t be prepared to do in order to make themselves carbon neutral and change their lives

 
5. World Debt and Trade

How do we really make poverty history? This workshop explores some of the recent development in the debt and aid debate and encourages discussion amongst participants to explore the issues further through role plays and issues lines

 

6. Global Movements and Resistance

This workshop explores the phenomena of the alter/ globalisation movement. Why people protests and how they have been doing it. We also examine what the protestors want and the feelings of participants about the world that they live in.

7. Participatory Methods of Education

Whether its curriculum development training or simply wanting to make classes more interesting, this workshop looks at different theories learning and explores the outcomes of different activities, games, exercises that aim to inform, inspire and enable participants

 

8. Consensus Decision Making and Facilitation.

Comprehensive training in working with non-hierarchical, consensus driven forms of organising. Tools for making consensus work, what to do when there is no agreement and how to manage difficult meetings.

 

9. Dealing with the Media

.If your running a campaign, launching a new community initiative knowing how to deal with the media and develop a strategy is very useful. This workshop explores some useful tips, techniques, practices interview technique and writing press releases and developing good communications strategy.

 

10. Emotional Health

How to support people experiencing trauma or stress. Techniques for recognising symptoms and ways in which to practically help people.

 

All of the above sessions can be 'training for trainers' so that we use the session to enable other people to give workshops on these subjects.

 

11. Pub Quiz

 

If the above matter is too heavy a light hearted pub quiz could be just what’s needed to deal with some of the ills of the world in a slightly different fashion. From climate change to debt whilst people are slowly slipping hedonistically away there is still a chance to make them sit up.

 

12. Film Screenings

We also have a whole host of documentaries around a whole variety of issues from long and more serious to short amusing subverts. Films screenings can be an excellent way of bringing people together. For a comprehensive list of our films please email at us at trapese@riseup.net
